When discussing the forgiveness process as outlined in A Course in Miracles, it's important to recognize that the emphasis on non-judgmental observation of thoughts is only a part of the broader teaching. Through applying this as the main teaching, one may inadvertently box A Course in Miracles into the same category as Rupert Spira's or Eckhart Tolle's teachings.
A Course in Miracles is much more than mere observation of our thoughts; it focuses on accepting the Atonement, prayer, the power of Miracles, and the extension of Miracles through following guidance from Jesus and the Holy Spirit.
The entire purpose of our curriculum is to align with the memory of God so we can experience Miracles and collapse time to bring about the end of dreaming.
In Chapter 1, "The Meaning of Miracles," from the 50 Miracle Principles, Jesus clearly articulates his message from the very beginning. This sets the tone for our primary focus and practice in A Course In Miracles.
The beauty of A Course in Miracles, which differs from other nondual teachings, lies in its ability to dissolve the illusion of a world through Miracles. They have the power not only to collapse time but also to control it and unravel the dreamlike quality of existence.
So, while non-judgmental observation is valuable, it fails to capture the full richness and kaleidoscopic multifaceted nature of A Course in Miracles. The teachings are like a holographic prism that goes beyond the multi-dimensional, encompassing a range of key concepts, leading one into the direct abstract experience of the One Light.
While teachers like Rupert Spira offer profound insights into the silence of the mind, they do not focus on Miracle-Working or the foundational understanding that we never truly separated from God.
Our true inheritance is abstract Light; it extends infinitely, without limitations, throughout Eternity. This is a critical distinction.
Jesus asserts, "³Ask for light and learn that you are light."
(T-8.III.1:3)
A Course in Miracles emphasizes the concepts of Miracle-mindedness, Miracle Working, and Atonement, with forgiveness serving as the bedrock of all Miracles. By engaging in the process of forgiveness, we create a series of miraculous experiences that deepen our understanding and acceptance of the Atonement. It's essential not to break this profound teaching into isolated parts by focusing solely on one aspect.
As previously mentioned, A Course in Miracles is a holographic teaching that holds a multi-faceted prism of Light with all the shards amalgamating. Again, right at the beginning, we're introduced to 50 Principles of Miracles, which sets the stage for the true essence of the Holy Spirit's Curriculum.
While forgiveness plays a crucial role in the process of bringing forth Miracles, we should be careful not to confuse A Course in Miracles with the nondual teachings of figures like Eckhart Tolle, Mooji, or Rupert Spira. Their focus revolves around something other than Miracles or the vital importance of Miracle Working and the acceptance of the Atonement, which is essential in one's journey with the Course.
It's important to remember that the core teachings of Jesus in A Course In Miracles highlight that our true essence is Light. This isn't about individual Lights each experiencing a body; rather, it's about recognizing that we are One Light existing in Eternity.
In essence, A Course in Miracles invites us to engage with Miracles as a powerful means of dispelling the illusions of our world, aligning our minds with the Light of the Miracle, and ultimately transforming and deleting our experience of reality and the belief in the physical body and a world.
In the quotes below, Jesus presents seemingly contradictory ideas about forgiveness. On one hand, he describes forgiveness as stillness that does nothing, while on the other, he emphasizes that to forgive means to overlook error.
"Forgiveness, on the other hand, is still and quietly does nothing. It offends no aspect of reality nor seeks to twist it to suit its preferences. It merely looks, waits, and judges not."
(W-pII.1.4:1-3)
He also states, "To forgive is to overlook. Look, then, beyond error and do not allow your perception to rest upon it, for you will believe what your perception holds."
(ACIM, T-9.IV.1:2-3)
At first glance, he seems to suggest inaction, yet he encourages us to overlook errors. This act of overlooking is deeply connected to the extent of our surrender. By choosing to overlook, we invite a transformation of our perceptions through the lens of the Holy Spirit.
Take a moment to ask the Holy Spirit for clarity on how overlooking errors relates to forgiveness and what this truly entails. Surrendering everything to the Holy Spirit goes hand in hand with the act of overlooking error.
The main focus of A Course In Miracles is not merely to observe our thoughts without judgment; rather, it lies in actively engaging with the daily lessons, prayer, and overlooking error through surrender.
Through this process, all the elements of the teachings will come together in your mind, leading you towards a direct experience of your true Oneself. With this understanding, you'll know which actions to take and where to focus your efforts under His guidance.
As essential as the forgiveness process is as it sets the stage for Miracles yet to come, making the "non-judgemental looking" your sole practice could offer not only a dry experience void of the exquisite bliss of the union with God inspired by devotional prayer but also the extension of the Miracle to all your brothers which entails Miracle Working.
Paradoxically, our curriculum, set forth within the ego framework, leads beyond a nondual scope. The end of dreaming, Direct Revelation, Miracles, the Great Rays, Light episodes, and seeing the Christ in all your brothers do not fit into the recognized camp of nonduality. Jesus uses the word "Light" 728 times, suggesting a clear emphasis on the purely abstract nature of Oneness A Course In Miracles teaches.
However, a word like nonduality still places a limit on a teaching that reaches beyond limits, leading out of the concept of time and a dream of bodies, entirely.
At one point, Jesus says that our curriculum's goal is peace, and then, at its completion, he states that it is only a beginning, not an end.
From Jesus:
"⁶The journey to God is merely the reawakening of the knowledge of where you are always, and what you are forever.
⁷It is a journey without distance to a goal that has never changed.
⁸Truth can only be experienced.
⁹It cannot be described, and it cannot be explained.
¹⁰I can make you aware of the conditions of truth, but the experience is of God.
¹¹Together we can meet its conditions, but truth will dawn upon you of itself."
(T-8.VI.9:6-11)
