I am not interested in hearing spiritual guides speak, seeing visions, or predicting the future. I have no desire to see dead people, auras, or attain psychic abilities.
My only goal is God.
In my twenties, I had experiences where something was attempting to come in to speak; this seemed to happen where the internal and external fell away.
A portal opened temporarily, and my body disappeared. I became aware that it wanted communication, whatever it was.
As soon as it began to happen, I shut it down as I feared I was losing my mind.
According to A Course In Miracles, those who develop psychic abilities transcend the limits of communication that the world places are becoming more natural.
“⁷Who transcends these limits in any way is merely becoming more natural. ⁸He is doing nothing special, and there is no magic in his accomplishments.” (M-25.2:7-8)
Diving deeply into A Course In Miracles over several years moved me into an experience of God is in everything I see because God is in my mind, along with experiences of the Holy Spirit amplifying my true nature. In comparison, these earlier experiences from my twenties were very different.
Before the Course, I lived abundantly in suffering, finally bringing me to my knees to a one-pointed focus of only wanting God above all else.
Earlier on, I asked. “Do I want communication with multi-dimensional beings from another timeline, or do I want God?
Do I want to channel spirit guides, or do I want God?
Do I want to be bombarded by dead people trying to get messages through, or do I want God?”
As a young adult in meditation retreats, there was always that one student at question time who would share excitedly the psychic phenomena they were experiencing.
“I see lights, auras, and visions.”
The Meditation Teacher responded.
“Don’t worry; this too shall pass.”
This is a quick way of saying continue to remain focused on your goal of meditation. These experiences are not evidence of progress. If anything, they can become a hindrance to progress.
In my experience, the Holy Spirit doesn’t use words; it’s an intimate experience apart from words.
If you ever doubt whether it’s the Holy Spirit in your mind speaking or if it is something else, the very fact that you have doubt means it is not the Holy Spirit.
There is no doubt when you have the experience of the Holy Spirit in your mind.
When I had a psychic experience recently, I knew it was not the Holy Spirit in my mind speaking because of the very fact that it used words.
When the multi-dimensional being came knocking again, I immediately gave it to the Holy Spirit and said;
“Take this, and you use it for your Holy Purposes. I give my ability to you to be used under your guidance and direction. I am here only to be Truly Helpful.”
The following quote from A Course In Miracles, in the section, Are Psychic Powers Desirable, encourages us to hand over to Him any perceived psychic abilities to be used under His guidance.
“²Given to the Holy Spirit and used under His direction, they are valuable teaching aids.”
(M-25.3:2)
Following this surrender, the following thoughts entered.
'This image in my mind is a thought I have made; above all else, I want God.
Nothing I see, I perceive or see, internal or external means anything; this multi-dimensional being I am experiencing does not mean anything.'
If we remain faithful to the teachings of A Course In Miracles, if our only goal is truly God, we will not let these experiences delay us.
We must see them for the illusions that they are and be vigilant only for God and his Kingdom.
Let us continue to have the tenacity and certainty of Spirit on our journey of no distance to relinquish absolutely everything.
With an open mind and heart, we can then remain receptive to being taught and allow everything to be reinterpreted for us by the Holy Spirit.
If God is your only goal, then Lesson 1 of A Course In Miracles, the very first lesson of our Miracle Program, encapsulates the teachings almost entirely and highlights the necessity to apply it daily.
Nothing I see means anything, so if you perceive it, you are dreaming it.
And from A Course in Miracles:
“⁷Those who have developed “psychic” powers have simply let some of the limitations they laid upon their minds be lifted.
⁸It can be but further limitations they lay upon themselves if they utilize their increased freedom for greater imprisonment.
⁹The Holy Spirit needs these gifts, and those who offer them to Him and Him alone go with Christ’s gratitude upon their hearts, and His holy sight not far behind.”
(M-25.6:7-9)
